Papa Benedict and Roma Soccer!

What a week!  We saw the pope!  Classes were cancelled on Wednesday so that we could all travel to the Vatican for the Papal audience.  We were close to the front row  and hundreds of people sang songs to Papa B in different languages and he smiled and thanked us all.  He talked about the saints, and to our delight he spoke of St. Therese of Liseoux (she seems to be a big part of this trip).  A little boy broke loose and ran on stage, and ran to the pope closely followed by a frightening Swiss guard.  The boy knelt at Pope Benedict’s feet, who proceeded to bless, place his hand upon and exchange some words with the boy.  The entire audience sighed with how cute it all was.

This week we also experienced our first professional calico game!  We wore our new Roma jerseys and joined in the intense fan section, shouting and yelling for Roma in a giant mob of rowdy gung ho fans.

Earlier this week we went to a flea market, which turned out to be over a mile long of thrifty things that we could haggle for.   Adrienne even felt the need to haggle a 50 cent scarf down to 20 cents.  Kaching.  Adrienne then proceeded to get lost for over an hour in the sea of people, and gave Jana a heart attack.  But alas!  She was found and we are both safe, happy and healthy.

Madrid this weekend.  We leave at 3 in the a.m.  Over and out.

  1. I can't believe that the little boy was even able to get that close... they probably figured he couldn't do much harm... but this now means that the Swiss guards are going to be extra sensititve. By the way, I freaking miss you both. And to top that, I thought I would let you know that I had to call some person in Chicago to get your address!!!! We had two snow days here (a first in BC history!) and I thought of you both when I went to snow creek and tubed!

LOVE YOU!! Have fun!! L'amore vince ogni cosa.
